Miken Freak Softball Bats

There was plenty of excitement as the girls got ready to try this newest bat, revealing to us that Miken has become a “big name” bat among the high school-aged fast pitch set. Great for Miken, but that usually doesn’t bode well for testing as when the expectations are that high to begin with it becomes harder for the bat to impress. But the Freak didn’t seem to suffer too much from the handicap of high expectations.

Everyone who was big enough to hit the Freak – we hit a 33”/24 oz. version – had good things to say about it. A couple of the smaller hitters who found the bat heavy shortened their swings and got good results as well. The balanced feel was nice and the bat didn’t swing too heavy (was true to its posted weight). And none of the hitters experienced any sting on balls hit anywhere along the barrel.

The girls were expecting great distance and most got pretty good distance, but I think each thought they should have got more. What everybody did get was sizzling line drives – to the point that they were stunned at the speed, the sound, and the consistency with which they were able to hit those drives.

Most of the girls liked the Freak and most of them liked it as much as the bat they currently use. Approximately half of the hitters preferred it to the bat they currently use.

The Miken Freak got good marks for its looks with very few negative comments about the black shell and almost ethereal silver/gray/blue wispy graphics. Miken advertises that the freak is a difference maker and can help you to where you need to be. Our girls were pretty quick to agree, calling it one of the best of the top-of-the-line composite fast pitch specific bats on the market.

The Miken Freak has a minus-10 inches to ounces ratio and is available in 34”/24, 33”/23, 32”/22, and 31”/21. It has a urethane end plug and MG-1 Sport Grain grip.
