Softball Bats

Should I buy the most Expensive Softball bat?

Have you been into a sporting good store lately looking for softball bats?  Or even if you look online you will know what I am talking about.  And it doesn't matter if you are looking for slow pitch or fast pitch softball bats you will see the same things.   You can get a bat anywhere from $20 to $500 or more.  I'm sure the guy who is selling it to you is telling you that you need to have the most expensive softball bat there is. It is so much more high tech than the cheaper ones and it will turn you into a home run hitter.

Personally, I don't see it that way.  It doesn't matter what the bat is made off if you don't make contact with the ball.  So if you are just a beginner and learning to play softball then you definitely do not need a expensive bat.  There are so many considerations to decide what bat is the best bat for you.  Firstly you need to know what type of softball you are going to be playing.  You're either playing slow pitch or fast pitch.  And yes, there are differences in the two types of bats.  More than likely you will not be able to use the same bat in league or tournament play as fast pitch and slow pitch leagues and tournaments use different governing bodies.

You have to watch what the bat you are buying is approved for and what league rules your league has.  Most bats will be approved for more than a few of the governing bodies but some of the better bats will not be allowed by every association.

If you are buying a youth fast pitch softball bat I would not go with the most expensive.  It can be hard as most girls and boys want to have the top of the line equipment but it isn't going to make a huge difference.  Get one that is priced in the middle, not the cheapest and not the most expensive.  Your son or daughter will grow out of a softball bat as they get older and stronger.  You don't want to be forking out $500 a year for a new bat.

As you play in the same league for a few years or start playing at higher levels, such as University Fast pitch softball then getting a top of the line bat would be a good idea.  It will end up lasting you for a number of years and you won't have to worry about playing in a league that doesn't allow for that bat.

Anyways, long story short.  The most expensive bat does not necessarily mean the best bat for YOU.
